My 15 Minutes of Fame

So, as you may or may not know I've been playing Champions Online since it was in Beta. It's an awesome game that allows you to create a super hero however you want. From powers to look there's no limit to your customization. Well...a little in regards to powers but that's where this blog comes in.

Since I've been in Beta I've been asking, begging, and pleading for the developers to create an Earth set. I did this because Roxstar, my main hero that I play, is an earth manipulator. A very strong, tough piece of rock. I've actually been very vocal on the forums about getting the earth set onto the live servers. Yesterday Cryptic FINALLY released earth! But that's not all; my hero, Roxstar, is the poster boy for it!

It all started about two years ago when the developer of the championBuilder, a program used to help plan out a character's progression in the game, abandoned it. For a while many of the community would post individual updates on the forums. It became an utter mess. Not to much longer and the program sat idle for several months. Since my webhost server that I use has unlimited bandwidth I decided to become the unofficial host of the championBuilder. I also became the sole updater of the source files.

Because of this and my extreme lobbying for the earth set a friend of mine in the game created this thread. I honestly didn't think it would go anywhere. I mean I'm one face of hundreds that play this game. The thread soon caught fire though and eventually gained developer support. Finally the head honcho chimed in and said they would use my character as the face of the earth archetype!! WOW! I couldn't believe it!

Then they went overboard. Not only did I get to be the face of the earth set, Cryptic made a Non Playable Character (NPC) of Roxstar! OMG! I'm officially in the game. I even have my own mission now!!!

The guy on the left is my actual in game character, Roxstar. The one on the right is my very own NPC version. This is honestly the neatest thing that's ever happened to me. I'd say it's better than winning the lottery. I mean how many people can say they've been immortalized in a video game? Now how many have won the lottery? Exactly.
